October’15 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Today, as part of the 1916 Proclamation celebration we received our Irish flag from two Irish Army Officers. The flag will be raised on 15th March ’16.
Parent/Teacher meetings will be held in the school on 15th October ’15. You will have received your appointment by now. If the time does not suit, please contact the class teacher to make a new appointment.
We will host our Halloween Fancy Dress Party on 23rd October’15. Pupils should wear fancy dress and bring in €2, which will be donated to the Refugee Crisis in Syria.
The Mid-Term Break will be from Monday 26th October to Friday 30th October’15.
We wish you all a ‘Happy Halloween’.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
The school will be closed on Monday 1st June for the Bank Holiday.
As part of our Green School ‘Travel’ project we will be launching our Walk to School, which will begin on Tuesday 2nd June’15. Pupils and available Parents/Guardians should be at the community centre at 9a.m. We will then walk to the school. Every one will wear a hi- vis vest. Hi-vis vests will be available. From then we intend to have a WOW (Walk on Wednesday) day every week, where available Parents/Guardians are asked to leave their cars at the community centre and walk with the children to the school. Where this is not feasible we suggest Parents/Guardians should carpool on this day.
We will host our annual Ice Cream Day in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland on Friday 12th June’15. (Invite to follow).
Lenrec will be here on Wednesday 24th June ’15 to collect recycled clothing. Please bring any bags of clothes, you may have for recycling to the school by that date.
The pupils will be going to Airborne Gymnastics Studio for a demonstration of the bigger apparatus and equipment.
We will be having a sport day during this month, weather permitting.
In the next week or so we will be conducting the Micra and Sigma Ts testing. The results will be given to the Parents/Guardians. If any Parent/Guardian has any concerns, they are invited to contact the class teacher to discuss the results. A book list will be issued, and will also be on our website.
The Parents Association are organising a Bag Packing Day on 20th June (more details closer to the date).
Junior Infant parents are asked to purchase Busy at Maths for senior infants(C.J. FALLON) over the weekend,as they have completed their junior infant book.
The school will close at 12 noon on Friday 26th June ’15 for the Summer holidays and not on the 25th June ’15 as previously stated. This is due to us having to take a day for the All Ireland Table Tennis Finals.
We hope everyone has a great summer, and we look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 1st September ’15, when the school re-opens.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
The school will be closed on Friday 22nd May ’15 for voting in the Referendum.
Congratulations to our All Ireland Table Tennis Champions teams- Brian Tansey, Oisín Jordan, Gavin Jennings, Darren Tansey, Matthew McEllin, Adam Walsh, Saoirse Jordan, Anna Mae Clarke, Jillian Clarke and Ríona Jordan.
We thank the Parents/Guardians who gave of their time and all our sponsors for their contributions- Cyril Burke, Michael Kilcoyne, Manulla B.O. M. Manulla Parents Association, Fr. Carney and Breaffy Resort Hotel.
The R.S.E. for 5th and 6th classes will take place on the 19th and 26th May’15 at 8p.m. in the school.
J.T. Sports will be in the school on Wednesday 20th May ’15. Please have your tracksuit requirements in by tomorrow.
The school tour for the junior classes will be on the 27th May ’15.
We thank the Parents Association for their sponsorship of both the senior and junior tours.
If any Parent wants to accompany their child on the tour, please contact Ms. Costello before this Wednesday 20th May ’15.
Congratulations to Daniel Adamus, Callan Jennings and Ríona Jordan who made their First Holy Communion on the 16th May.
The roll out of the e-fibre broadband was a big day for us, with a visit from An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny. We thank Ms. Gibbons and the senior classes who helped make the day the success it was. Thanks to the Parents Association, Tom Durkan, Derek Jordan and Claire Lally for their help.
‘Airborne’ gymnastics will continue for the rest of the term.

April ’15 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:
A R.S.E. ( Relationship & Sexuality Education) talk for pupils of fifth and sixth classes will be given by Cathal Kearney in Manulla N.S. on the 19th and 26th May ’15. (More details for these pupils later.)
Air Borne Gymnastics began last Wednesday and will run for eight weeks. Proceeds from the Card Game and the Flag Day will be used to pay for these eight weeks.
A Big Thank You, to all who participated in the card game and Flag Day, and donated spot prizes. The Flag Day raised €872.89 and the card game raised €1,170.50. Great Work!
Lenrec Recycling will be in the school on 23rd April ’15 to collect clothes for recycling. Please have your donations in by the morning of the 23rd April.
Congratulations to Molly Clarke who came 1st and Chloe Connolly who came 2nd in the Credit Union Easter Art Competition.
Fibre Broad Band is being launched in the area, and our school has been chosen for the launch. The launch is in May and we expect a visit from the Taoiseach or the Department Minister, with film crew and newspaper coverage of the event. (More details as we get them).
Congratulations to Saoirse Jordan who played on the Irish Table Tennis under 13’s team that won the Six Nations Cup. The event was held in Blackburn, England.
We are once again in the finals of the All Ireland Table Tennis competition, in Dublin. We will need to fundraise for this event.

We will take part in the 5 aside soccer tournament in Mile bush on Wednesday 22nd April ’15. We also participated in the Hurling tournament in McHale Park last Thursday.
A donation of €171.50 was made to Crumlin Children’s Hospital from our recent cake bake sale.

Dear Parents /Guardians:
Good luck and Best Wishes to Miss Gibbon’s classes for tomorrow Wednesday, when they attend the Bord Gáis Theatre Awards. These pupils should be at the school at 6.40a.m. for departure at 6.45a.m. sharp.
Best wishes and best of luck also to our Table Tennis Teams who are taking part in the Connaught Finals in Castlebar on Thursday 5th March ’15.
Thursday is World Book Day. Each pupil has received a voucher towards the purchase of a book.
First Confession will be held in Balla church on the 12th March ’15 at 7.30p.m.
First Holy Communion is on the 16th May at 12 noon.
The school will be closed on the 17th March ’15 for St. Patrick’s Day.
We will be participating in the Balla Patrick’s Day Parade. We will all meet in the Church car park after 11am Mass.
The Parents Association are holding a Flag Day on the 28th March ’15. The funds raised will be used to pay for the music teacher.
