March ’16 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Thursday 3rd March is ‘World Book Day’. Each pupil will receive a token which can be used towards the purchase of a book, in selected bookstores.
Scór na bPaistí will take place on Thursday 3rd March in Carnacon at 7p.m. We wish everyone the best of luck.
Michael McHale will resume Gaelic training on Monday next.
Pupils should wear their tracksuits on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Uniforms should be worn on Tuesday and Thursday.
To commemorate the 1916 Rising, schools across the country will raise the Irish Flag on March 16th.
We would like to invite you to join us for our raising of the flag at 1.30p.m. on Wednesday 16th March ’16.
We call on all our wonderful bakers to produce some goodies for the event.
Please fill in and return your time slot before next Tuesday if you are able to participate in the Bucket Collection on Saturday March 26th ’16.
The school will be closed from 17th March – 1st April ’16. School Reopens on Monday 4th April.
We wish you all a very Happy Easter and look forward to seeing you all on the 16th.

February ’16 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Confirmation will take place in Balla Church on Friday 12th February, at 2.30p.m. All the pupils will go home at 12 noon on this day. Congratulations to everyone making their Confirmation, we hope they have a lovely day.
Enrolment for 2016/17 will be held from 7-8p.m. on Monday 15th February ’16.
The school will be closed on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th February ’16 for the Mid-Term Break.
Any break in this awful weather, please take the opportunity to do our Green School – Walk to School. In the interest of safety all walks should begin from the Community Centre.
The school will be closed on Friday 26th February ’16 for voting in the General Election.
Congratulations to the Junior and Senior pupils who participated in the Credit Union Quiz on Sunday 7th February and especially our prize winning senior team who came in fifth.
Keep up the good work with our Healthy Eating Policy.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome back everyone to a new term and a new year. We hope you all had a lovely Christmas.
Many thanks to all for the lovely cards, gifts and goodies you sent in. Here’s hoping the year ahead will be happy and healthy for everyone.
All the pupils went carol singing in Super Value on the 21st December ’15. They raised €100 for Castlebar Meals On Wheels. The remainder of the money raised will go towards the Summer School Tours.
Congratulations to Chloe Connolly who won a prize, in the County Council Christmas Decoration made from recycled materials, competition.
Congratulations to Saoirse Jordan, who also won a prize, in the Connaught Telegraph Crossword 1916 competition.
The Confirmation class will go on Retreat to Ballintubber Abbey on Monday 25th January ’16. Students should bring a packed lunch and have clothing appropriate for outdoors.
Confirmation will be on Friday 12th February ’16 at 2.30pm, in Balla Church.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
The school will be closed on the 8th December ’15 as it is a Holy Day.
On Thursday 10th December’15, we will be going to the Sacred Heart Home to sing Christmas Carols.
On Monday 21st December’15, we will be singing Carols at Supervalue, Castlebar.
Pupils should bring in €5 to cover the cost of both trips.
Pupils should wear a Santa hat on both days.
The school will close at 12 noon on Tuesday 22nd December ’15 for the Christmas Holidays and re-opens on Wednesday, 6th January ’16.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
On Tuesday 1st December’15, Junior, Senior Infants and First classes will go to the Linenhall Arts Centre see ‘Snow Play’ presented by Lyngo Theatre Co. The cost of the play and the bus will be €5.00 per pupil. Please have the money in by Friday 13th Nov.’15.
The last session of swimming lessons for this year is 13th November, we hope everyone enjoyed the lessons and improved their swimming.
Election of parent representatives to the B.O.M. will take place at a meeting on 18th November’15 at 8 p.m.
The 10th November is the last day we can accept shoe boxes for Team Hope. The total of bags for the Syria Refugees was 20.
We thank you for your generosity in all our appeals.
On Friday 27th November’15, Gladys McCormack will present her magic show. Please send in €4 per pupil or €10 per family of 3.
Lenrec recycling will call to the school on 20th November. Please have any clothes for recycling in by then.
Remember as the season changes, to continue with our healthy eating policy. In this season of inclement weather, please listen to Midwest Radio for school closures.
Pupils ordering the Christmas Annuals should have their order and money in by this Friday.
