June Newsletter’18

Dear Parents/Guardians:


The school will be closed on Friday 1st and Monday 4th June’18 for the Bank Holiday.


During this fabulous weather, pupils are permitted to wear shorts and t-shirt to school.


We will hold Sports Day on Thursday 31st May ’18. Pupils should bring in a spoon and potato, an old tie and a sack. Bring a hat, extra drinks and sun screen.


We are going to entertain the residents of the Dalton Home, Claremorris on Wednesday 6th June ’18.  The cost of the bus is €2.50 per pupil.


The senior classes will go on their school tour to Rockingham Forest Park, Boyle on Monday 11th June ’18. (Details to follow)


The junior classes will go on their school tour on Thursday 14th June ’18 to Westport House. (Details to follow)


We will host our annual Ice Cream Day in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland on Friday 22nd June, to which you are all invited.

December ’17 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:

On Tuesday 12th December ’17, the whole school will attend a musical theatre version of Hansel and Gretel, in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar.  The cost of the bus and the show is €5 per pupil. Please have the money in before 12th December.


Congratulations to Chloe Heneghan who won a prize in the Castlebar Library Art Competition.


Thank you and well done to everyone who participated in the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal.  We donated 57 boxes. The boxes are on their way to children in Eastern Europe and Africa.


The pupils and staff have raised €178 for the David Gavin fund, when they held their trick or treat Halloween party.


The school will be closed on Friday the 8th December ’17.


On Monday 11th December ’17, all our pupils will go to the Sacred 6Heart Home, Castlebar to perform carols for the residents from 11am to 12noon. Pupils should wear ‘Santa Hats’.


The new Parents Representative member for the Board of Management is Triona Hennelly. We welcome Triona to the Board.


On 22nd December ’17, all the pupils will sing carols in Super Value, Castlebar. Please be at the school by 9.15am as the bus will be departing then. Pupils should again wear their ‘Santa Hats’. There is no need to bring a school bag on that day. The money raised will go to the Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Fund and the school. Any Parents/Guardians  who are available and likes to sing, are very welcome to join us from 9.30am to 11am.


The school will close at 12 noon on Friday 22nd December ’17 for the Christmas break and re-open on Monday 8th January ’18.

October ’17 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:


On Wednesday, 25th October, the pupils of 5th and 6th classes will attend a blitz in Balla Secondary School. The cost of the bus will be €3 per pupil.


On Friday 27th October ’17, we will host our annual Halloween Party. Pupils should dress up in fancy dress and bring in €2 which we will donate to the David Gavin Fund.


Mid –Term Break is Monday 30th October to Friday 3rd November’17(Inclusive).  The school reopens on Monday 6th November ’17. We hope everyone has a Happy Halloween.


Jade from ‘Dance World’ will give a demonstration in dance on 8th November. Pupils should bring in €2 each.


The 10th November’17 will be our last swimming session, we hope everyone enjoyed the sessions and learned loads!


On November 15th, the senior classes will attend the Mayo Science & Technology Festival in Claremorris. More details to follow.


It’s that time of year again, when we fill our shoe boxes for the Christmas Shoebox appeal. We have a great track record for this and we thank you for your generosity. The last day for bringing in your shoe box is 10th November ’17. We have some spare shoe boxes here in the school if anybody wants one.


The Parent/Teacher Meetings are to be held on 23rd November’17.  You will receive your appointment shortly.

May ’17 Newsletter

Congratulations and well done to our All Ireland Boys and Girls Table Tennis Champions. We are so proud! We would like to thank everyone for their support, especially, the Parents who bag packed and raised €455.30, our B.O.M, Fr. Carney, the Parents’ Assc., Councilors, Michael Kilcoyne and Al McDonald, who all sponsored the the teams and to Liam Devaney, Liam Tansey and everyone for their support and encouragement.


Congratulations also to Jillian Clarke, who won an award in the Local History & Folklore Essay Competition.


On the 10th May ’17, the Communion class will go on Retreat to Knock, in preparation for their First Holy Communion on Saturday 20th May ’17. Pupils should bring a packed lunch and a drink.


An R.S.E. talk will be given to the fifth and sixth class pupils on 16th May and their Parents/Guardians will attend on the 23rd May ’17.


As the weather is so nice, we have decided to hold Sports Day tomorrow, Tuesday 9th May. Please bring in a sack, an old tie/scarf and a spud and spoon. Don’t forget the sun screen, a hat and extra drinks.


If any of the pupils of sixth class would like to donate their sixth class books to the school at the end of term, we would be delighted to have them.


On the 19th May ’17 we will be hosting a Super hero Day in aid of the LauraLynn Foundation, who provides respite for seriously ill children. Pupils should dress up as their favourite outfit, and donate €2 to the cause.

April ’17 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:


Cybersafeireland.Org, has sent us an email advising us that in response to Parents telling them they feel overwhelmed on the subject of internet safety, they have developed a 3-minute scribe animation video with simple advice for Parents. The video can be found on their home page We recommend a visit to the webpage.


The bucket collection organised by the Parents Association has raised €1,071. Thanks very much to everyone who participated.


We will be having an Easter Egg Hunt on Friday 7th April’17. Pupils should bring in €2 before Friday.


The school will be closed from Monday 10th to Friday 21st April ’17 for the Easter holidays .We hope everyone enjoys the break.


We will be bag packing in Dunnes Stores, Castlebar on Friday 21st April to raise funds for the trip to Dublin for the All Ireland Table Tennis Championship. Thanks to those who have already volunteered and we welcome any further volunteers, to optimize our fund raising chances.





The Table Tennis Championship takes place in Dublin on 27th April ’17. Due to the early start we will be overnighting on the 26th April. The school will remain open for the junior classes. The senior classes will receive their itinerary after the holidays.



We will be continuing with our ‘Walk on Wednesdays’. Well done everyone!
