Feb ’17 Newsletter

We hope everyone has settled into the New Year and new term. We thank everyone for all the lovely cards, gifts and good wishes we received for Christmas.

 

The Christmas Concert was a great success, raising, after deductions €300. The carol singing raised €526, which was divided between the school and the Irish Pilgrim Trust.

This money will go towards funding of different activities and school equipment throughout the year. Your generosity as always, is much appreciated.

 

Congratulations to Emma Leneghan, who has won the Cumann na mBunscol  Handball Mayo Title competition. Emma is now through to the Connaughts. Best of Luck Emma.

 

This week is Catholic Schools Week. The theme is Learning with Pope Francis to Care for Our Common Home- – the daily theme is;

Seeing beauty of our common home, caring for our common home, Grandparents watching over our common home, protecting and sharing our common home.

 

On Friday 3rd February ’17 Ms. Costello’s classes with attend a performance of the Quite Tree in the Linenhall Arts Centre.

 

 

Enrolment for 2017/18 will take place on 15th February ’17 from

7-8 p.m.

 

County Photos will be here on 16th February ’17 to take school photos. Request forms to follow.

 

We will be holding a school Bakeathon, supporting the people of Syria on 22nd February’17.

 

The school will be closed for the Mid-Term break on 23rd and 24th February ’17.

 

As part of the Green School Travel programme, weather permitting, for the next 10 days starting Monday 6th to Friday 17th February, we will be taking the Big Travel Challenge by walking to school, starting out from the Community Centre. Remember to wear your hi-vis vests.

 

Our Green School theme for this year is Bio Diversity. More details to follow.

Dec ’16 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:

 

A huge thank you and well done for your response to our Christmas Shoe Box appeal. We are delighted to say we collected 60 boxes.

 

Congratulations to Ríona Jordan who won a prize in the County Library Halloween Art Competition.

 

On Wednesday 7th December ’16 the senior classes will attend Balla Secondary School’s production of Heavenly Heaven. Admission is free and the cost of the bus is €2 per pupil. Please have the money in by the 6th December.

 

If you would like to place an advertisement in our Concert Programme, please contact the school before Monday 5th December. The fee for placing an advertisement is €20.00. Spot prizes will also be gratefully accepted.

 

The school will be closed on the 8th December ’16, which is a holy day.

 

The Christmas Concert will start at 7.30p.m. on Thursday 15th December’16. All pupils should be here at 7.00p.m. We are now taking orders for the Concert D.V.D.

 

All our pupils will be going to Supervalu on the morning of 22nd December ’16 to sing Christmas Carols and raise money for the school and the Irish Pilgrim Trust. Pupils should wear their Santa Hats (please have your name on the inside of your hat).

Pupils do not need to bring their school bags on that day, as the school will close at 12 noon for the Christmas break. Parents/Guardians may collect their children on that day, from Supervalu at 11.30a.m, if they so wish.

 

Your attention to the enclosed note on head lice is greatly appreciated.

 

The school will reopen after the Christmas break on the 9th January 2017.

 

From everyone here at the school we wish you all a very happy Christmas and hope 2017 is prosperous and bright.

Nov ’16 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:

 

Mass for the deceased of the parish will take place in the community centre on Friday 11th November ’16, at 8p.m. Any musicians who will be available to attend, please let us know by tomorrow. We will have a practice in the school at 2p.m. on Thursday.

 

This Thursday is the last day to bring in the shoeboxes. Our target this year is to supply 50 boxes. We know from past years how well you support this cause and we thank you for your generosity, in helping us reach our goal.

 

Our Halloween party was a great success. Thanks to all the Parents/Guardians who sent in treats for the party.

 

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the pupils did not attend for athletics in Claremorris today. We will let you know the new date as soon as we have it.

 

Lenrec Recycling will be calling to the school on Wednesday 9th November ’16. Please send in any clothes you have for recycling by then. The more bags we recycle the more funds we raise for the school.

 

Friday 11th November ’16 is the last day of swimming lessons for this year.

 

 

Steffi Otto from Heritage Ireland will host a workshop in the school on Tuesday 15th November ’16 on how to use natural materials (hemp) to make Christmas decorations, skipping ropes, etc. If anyone of you can remember skipping songs/rhymes from your skipping days, please send them in to us.

 

Our ‘exercise for life’ programme continues, with the children running for approx. 15 mins per day. Keep up the good work.

 

We are now taking orders for Christmas Annuals by Educate .ie. at €2 each. Please place your order by Friday 18th November.

 

As the Christmas Concert draws nearer (15th December), we would be most grateful for any spot prizes you could donate to the school.

Oct ’16 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:

 

On Wednesday 19th October ‘16, Fred Corvenieo with stage his magic show. The cost per pupil is €4.00. Please have the money sent in by Wednesday.

 

The Parent/Teacher will be held on Thursday 20th October ’16. You will have received your appointment by now. If the time or date is not convenient for you, please contact the class teacher to make alternate arrangements.

 

On 28th October ’16, we will host our Halloween Trick or Treat party. Pupils should dress in their favourite costumes.

 

The school will go on its mid -term break from Monday 31st October – Friday 4th November ’16. We wish you all a Happy Halloween.

 

All classes will attend an athletics workshop on Monday 7th November ’16. The cost of the bus and athletics will be €5.50 per pupil.

 

Pupils will have their last session of swimming on Friday 11th November ’16. We hope everyone enjoyed the sessions and have improved in their swimming.

 

 

 

 

We are participating in the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal again this year. Please have the boxes in by the 11th November’16. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

 

Lenrec Recycling will be here on 9th November ’16. Please send in your unwanted clothes, shoes, household ware for recycling.

June ’16 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:

 

 

Our end of year Mass for the sixth class pupils will take place on 9th June ’16 at 12 noon. Parents/Guardians of all our pupils are welcome to attend. We wish Molly, Chloe, Saoirse and Matthew the very best as the move on to Secondary school.

 

Keith from JT Sports will be here measuring for tracksuits on the 15th June ’16. Please return your tracksuit requirements form by 13th June ’16. You can also (if you prefer) call to them in Green stores any Saturday to be measured. (Just let us know on the form).

 

Luca from Green Schools will give a cycling skill workshop to the senior classes at 10 a.m. on 21st June ’16. If it’s convenient, please bring your bike and cycle gear on that day.

 

On the 24th June’16, we will be hosting our annual Ice Cream Fun Day in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland. Ice creams will cost €2 each. We will also be raising our Green School Walk Flag on that day. Everyone is welcome to come at 1.30a.m.

 

The school will close for the summer holidays on 28th June ’16 at 12 noon. We hope you all have a great summer and we will see you 1st September ’16.

 

The voluntary contributions and school journal monies are now due.

School journal is €2 for pupils from 1st class up. Voluntary Contributions are €20 per child/family of 2plus €30.
