Historic Double for Manulla National School

Wednesday, March 26th, 2014

Congratulations to Manulla National School on winning the Connacht Table Tennis National Schools competition. Both boy’s and girl’s competition was held in Breaffy Sports Arena on March 6th ’14.

20140306_170202Remarkably the school entered three boys and two girl’s teams, a total of twenty five active players out of thirty two pupils in the school. It is a great credit to all the teachers, coaches and parents for their involvement in the development of the sport in the school.

It was by no means easy; the girls were pushed hard by Cur-na-fola in the final. The team of Emily Clarke (capt.), Anna Mae Clarke, Saoirse Jordan, and Emma Leneghan won on a 4:1 scoreline. Manulla (2) girls also took part and a number of these players will be hoping to make the 1st team in the coming years.

In the boys, all three teams made the quarter finals. Unfortunately Manulla (1) played Manulla (3) and won on a 4:0 score line. Manulla (2) had a hard fought win over Bunninaden, winning by 4 games to 3.

20140306_165922Manulla(1) had a 4:2 win against Knock in the semi-final and Manulla (2) lost to St. Patrick’s BNS. on a 4:1 score, however they had a cracking win in the deciding doubles 11:9 in the 5th set to take third place. In the final Manulla(1) came up against fellow club mates and teams were evenly matched, level at 2:2 after singles, but Manulla won the two doubles in two close contests. St. Patrick’s team of Daniel Vegas, Rory Smith, Ciaran Mylette and Conor Quinn had to settle for runners – up, on this occasion. Manulla(1) team of Aaron Tansey(capt.), Brian Tansey, Darren Tansey and Oisín Jordan were delighted on receiving the Primary School’s Cup.
